Battery shuttles to Rail Live 2022

For those travelling to Rail Live 2022 via Great Western Railway services at Honeybourne, a shuttle train will be operating directly into the Rail Live site.

Formed of a Chiltern Railways Class 168 HybridFLEX, trains are expected to run hourly, providing direct connection with services from London Paddington, Slough, Reading, Oxford, Worcestershire Parkway and Great Malvern.

Comprising the converted diesel multiple unit 168329, the HybridFLEX is the result of a four-year partnership between Chiltern, Porterbrook and Rolls-Royce. It entered service on February 10 featuring a retrofitted Rolls-Royce mtu power pack that significantly cuts carbon emissions by combining a diesel engine with batteries.

The power pack can operate as both a motor and generator, allowing the train to run on battery power alone - especially when arriving at or departing stations.
