Rail Live – Company Press Release

Since our formation in 1976, Trackwork has long established itself in the UK as a leading provider of multi-discipline engineering services to the UK Rail Industry, providing a diverse range of products and services.

Our principal activities focus on Rail Projects (Design, Installation & Maintenance), Manufacture & Supply of track-materials (Plain-line and S&C), Signalling (Design, Install & Test) & supply of Polymer Cable Trough products.

Throughout the last decade the business has seen significant diversification and growth which has led to us to acquiring several established and respected businesses in Rail.  We have also formed strategic partnerships with companies that match our values and goals which complements our existing offering to our valued clients.

2019 – Acquired Premier Rail Services, who provide specialist services in the installation, upgrade and maintenance of all types of level crossings and road rail access points across the UK.

2023 – Acquired HComm, who have over 20 years’ experience in delivering design, installation, test & commission services within the railway telecommunications engineering sector.

2023 – Formed a strategic partnership with Pintsch GmbH, to provide Depot Control Systems in the UK for Traincare Facilities, Sidings, Freight Terminals, Ports & various private companies requiring rail operations.  This partnership strengthens our position in the signalling market.

2025 – Acquired Henry Williams, a long-established manufacturer of control and signalling equipment, based in Darlington since 1883 and now providing a wide range of trackside cubicles & Class I & II power distribution equipment, plus permanent way track products.

Drawing on many of our group activities, Porterbrook appointed Trackwork to transform the Rail Infrastructure at Long Marston depot, with work commencing late in 2024.

Trackwork Ltd, in the capacity of principal contractor, are currently undertaking a major redevelopment of Porterbrook’s 135-acre mainline-connected site. This investment brings their total commitment to the site to £75 million and marks a significant step in enhancing Long Marston’s rail infrastructure. Works include the design, supply and installation of:

  • 11km of new track
  • 40 No. switch & crossing units (manufactured in-house by Trackwork)
  • 37,000 tonnes of ballast
  • Level crossing replacement
  • Associated civils works including road modifications, walkways, troughing, culverts etc.
